“At first I was skeptical of the drill and fill service, questioning if it was for us because we're on a tight budget and there isn't much wiggle room for much outside of the basics. Bottom line was I didn't think we could afford it. The fact remained though that we had certain greens with specific problems that traditional core aeration couldn't solve. By drilling and amending deeper, Western Rootzone solved our poor water infiltration problem. Puddling after heavy rainfall is a thing of the past. “Last spring I had Tim Kubash (Western Rootzone) come in and aerate a problem green with the Drill and Fill aerator. I’d been having some drainage issues with this particular green and felt that it would perform better if we could open up some channels through the root zone. We double aerified using ¾” by 12” deep tines and the results were very good. A couple of things about the equipment impressed me right away. The first was that there was no surface heaving at all. The second was that the machine filled the holes completely in one pass. When Tim finished the green it felt very firm and solid under foot. Conventional aeration of this green caused unacceptable surface disruption and required a lot of rolling smooth it out and firm it up. I was very satisfied with the service that Tim provided. The green performed well this last summer and I can attribute much of the improvement to the deep aeration. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Western Rootzone.”
